👋 Connections Corner
Another great month of meeting new, exciting and interesting people at a range of events around the Derbyshire area. Big shout out to Jaz Greer and his new Enterprise Cafe event that occurs every month at 58i in the centre of the city. This month I had a fantastic chat with Ashley Miller from HSBC who enlightened me with how the juggernaut of the banking world is looking in to ways they can better support local businesses. We somehow digressed on to the question of if you won the lottery, would you ever tell anyone exactly how much you won?
We both would not!
As is customary for my monthly visits, or as I like to call it, my social life, I spent another warm afternoon at Been Networking, always brilliantly hosted by Ian Pownall. This month I enjoyed chewing the fat with Elizabeth Crump, who came all the way from Pennsylvania. Shows how popular this event is becoming and fantastic the community is. I also enjoyed meeting Alex Meadows, Stephanie Moore and Evelyn Brink, whilst catching up with Julie Anne Dethierry and Fatma Abidi. A brief hello with Alice Greenway who I hope to properly chat to at the next event.
I spent the tail end of the event chatting away with Des Coleman, who kept mentioning something about the forecast being sunny, but I have no idea what he was on about.
Joking aside, Des and I had an enjoyable natter about our pasts and the commonalities they shared. Mainly both being drama school graduates who enjoyed partying in our 20’s. However he found roles in Eastenders and Is Harry on the Boat whilst I found the late night haunts of Camden Town. The cool thing about these moments we all share at events are often the fact we mention business for a nanosecond and then truly connect with people over the less mundane aspects of life. He departed leaving me with a rather blue joke that has no place on this newsletter, though I did respond in kind.
My final venture of this month was to the Ashby Connect where I enjoyed catching up with regulars on the circuit Imran Ahmed, Mark Harris and Vicki Walker. Vicki in particular works for the EMCRC, The East Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre, and through this connection, Jamlis Web is proud to support and promote the good work they do, all for FREE, to keep you safe online.
Which we really like!

The following sections are all information and tips we have found from great sources to help you make the most of your online presence and your business whilst supporting your people.
💥 Who Are Jamlis Web?
For readers who still don’t know who we are, Jamlis Web is a new web design, build and host company that was founded by people that felt premium quality websites were overpriced and out of reach for many people who really needed them.
On average, there are 800,000 new businesses incorporated every year in the UK and only 25% of them are founded by people from lower socio-economic backgrounds even though around 56% of the UK identify as working class. This disparity is evidence that social mobility is still to be improved and support must be in place to create a level playing field.
We think all startups should have access to the digital tools and support they need to actually compete with newly formed competitors that come with financial backing. This is why we offer our packages at affordable prices and with instalment plans so every great idea has the chance to be realised.
Read more about social mobility and how the government intends to support and implement strategies to help open up opportunities to all people in their published policy paper, ‘State of the Nation: Local to national, mapping opportunities for all‘.
If you are a startup looking for a bespoke website that captures your brand identity, message and key focus and helps you stand out from the rest, then come and talk to us at Jamlis Web and we will be more than happy to offer guidance and support.

Google Search Volatility Hits in June 2025: What You Need to Know
June 2025 saw multiple waves of unannounced search ranking turbulence, likely tied to AI-enabled tweaks and SERP layout experiments.
Key highlights include:
🔄 Multiple volatility spikes began on June 4, resurfaced on June 9, and peaked June 16–18, according to SEMrush Sensor, Mozcast, Wincher, and other rank trackers.
📉 Desktop, mobile, and local listings were affected. Mobile search especially saw dramatic swings, including erratic map pack changes.
👀 Stable rankings, lower clicks: Many sites retained ranking positions but lost click-throughs, suggesting Google’s AI overview panels are capturing attention before users click through.
🚨 Local SEO impacted: Some businesses dropped out of Maps temporarily, only to return slightly shifted in rank or presentation.
🤖 Likely causes include layout testing and increased AI integration (AI Overviews, SGE), rather than traditional core algorithm changes.
Tip
Audit your site in Search Console for any CTR drops or impression disparities. Review Core Web Vitals, schema presence, and UX to stay resilient during this unpredictable period.

Zero Click & AEO Focus for July
As search behaviour shifts, this month we’re spotlighting Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), which boosting visibility even when users don’t click. With over 65% of searches ending in zero-clicks globally, and projections reaching 70% in 2025, AEO is essential for maintaining brand presence in SERP features like AI Overviews, Featured Snippets, and “People Also Ask” boxes.
Why AEO matters:
🚀 Brands earn impressions from zero-click answers through optimized schema and clear, direct content.
🎯 AEO emphasizes structured data (FAQ Page, HowTo, LocalBusiness schemas) and conversational Q&A formats, aligning with modern search AI.
📈 It also supports brand awareness even without organic clicks, as users see your name in knowledge panels and AI summaries.
Mini Case Study: BlakSheep Creative
Challenge
Losing visibility as zero-click results dominated keyword SERPs.
Action Taken

⚖️ What Businesses Need to Know
🏭 New UK Industrial Strategy & Energy Bill
What’s happening
On June 22, the UK government launched a decadal industrial strategy (2025–2035), offering up to 25% electricity cost savings for ~7,000 energy-intensive firms from 2027. It also aims to cut regulatory burden, boost R&D, address skills shortages, and increase British Business Bank investment.
Why it matters
Businesses facing high energy costs can plan ahead to benefit from relief, while access to funding and streamlined regulation offer long-term growth potential.

💧 Water (Special Measures) Act 2025 – In case you missed it!
What’s new
Came into force February 24, 2025, empowering Ofwat/Natural Resources Wales to restrict executive bonuses and even imprison CEOs for compliance failures in water management.
Why it matters
Even non-water firms in contracted supply chains must enforce stricter environmental and compliance standards—which raises governance expectations and legal risk throughout the supply network.
Action Steps for Businesses
- Energy intensive operations
Evaluate eligibility and plan for bill relief; begin energy audits now. - Environmental governance
Review supplier contracts and compliance protocols to ensure alignment with the new Act.
Staying on top of these shifts will help you unlock financial support and reduce compliance risks as UK legislation evolves.
